The Mother: Favorite Books and CD's

1st day of water play
My son will be turning 2 on the 21st of June and I wanted to do some mommy posts leading up to his big day! I have a lot of fun with him so much so that my sister tells me I need to get some friends my own age. But I enjoy laughing with him, teaching him, and watching him learn. Since I've talked about my love for reading and HIS love for reading, which is why I had to buy him a bookshelf, I decided to share some of my his favorite books and CD's.

30 poems. 30 days: Day 13 The Surrogates (A poem)

What’s your type? Tall, thin, short, big, “long hair don’t care”, short hair with some flair, big feet, small hands; what is it? How many times have you changed who you were to fit this “type” for the person you were interested in? Be honest… The clip-ins, clip-ons, booty pops, pumping iron, wearing suits when you know you rock sneakers and hoodies because you’ve realized that’s what “they” like.

But check it…

We have to stop looking to other people for who we should be and start loving everything we are. Because who you are is the “type” for someone and for that you should rest easy. Stop giving birth to a child that doesn’t belong to you. Don’t feed into the clone hype loves.
Be YOU!

The surrogates (a poem)
Wearing hair longer than yours,
with curls to add some flair.
A mole on her face,
in your exact same place,
as if God came down and put it there.
She’s a ball full of bubbles, more spunk, more fun,
with the same love you share for him.
And I don’t care, which one he picks, because neither of his chances look dim.
You both love what you don’t understand, wasting time on someone who has a choice.
You seal off your life, ignoring other men, not speaking because he took away your voice.
So caught up, in a fairytale,
that Disney himself couldn’t pen.
Waiting for him at the finish line, but you haven’t yet begun to win.
He speaks,
words of affirmation,
to keep you close to home.
But little do you know,
he’s not hurting at all,
because he’s found himself your clone.

What does your attitude towards your atmosphere say about your alliance with God... Goodbye 2012

2012 began with sacrifice.
And I don’t know if you’ve have ever had to give up something you love but it’s not easy. When Scott and I were dating I had this sweater duster that I absolutely adored. I guess after seeing me in it morning, noon, and night he informed me that when we got married that duster would have to go. (Sad face)

Seeing how serious he was I wore that mug out leading up to the day we got married and sure enough the time came for me to part ways with it.
Some “stuff” we hold on to represents a time/season in our life that speaks to who we were. We find comfort in keeping these things close by because they make us feel, well, comfortable. But there will come a time when God will ask you part ways with something much bigger than a duster and you can choose to swallow your pain and be obedient or you can choose to rebel. I love my Daddy too much to rebel against His requests and no one ever said that submission and obedience were the easiest task to complete. This year we let go of so much (I would say lost but that would indicate regret) to find ourselves in a place of simplistic living very painful to endure.

And in EVERYTHING give Thanks... Day 1

Homecoming 2012

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Whew October came and went didn't it! I hope you were able to get out and participate in a Breast Cancer Awareness or Domestic Violence Awareness walk/run, activity, outreach etc. May we not just remember those impacted by these things just in the month of October but all year long.

With November just popping up on us I am going to attempt (God willing) to take on this 30 days of thankfulness proposed my one of my sorority sisters. That means I am going to blog something I'm thankful for everyday this month. (Lord help me on these weekends.) Lol! We are on the brink of the close of this year and looking back on 2012 God has snatched me out and kept me still in some quiet and at times lonely places. Places where I felt like He had forgotten about me, perhaps ignoring me and that this too might not pass. But I'm thankful for the people who let Him use them because they were those reminders in this season that in order for me to become the woman He is calling me to be I am going to have to sit quietly in His presence and just be still. Whew!

So this month I am encouraging you to join me in this! Whether you are writing in your journal what you're thankful for, posting it on Facebook, tweeting it, making a tweetgram on instagram (hello 21st century), or just professing with your mouth each morning! Some of us have traveled through some thick places to get to November and some of us have had to pull and pray others through. Either way we all have had to uplift, move forward, pray, fight the enemy, live, and press onward to arrive at this destination and for THAT we should be thankful!

Amen?!!

So here goes:

Have PATIENCE with all things, but first of all with yourself.
-St. Francis de Sales

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.
-Galatians 5:22

I must admit that I can be impatient at times. Just my story above shows you how hard it is for me to be in a season of waiting. And quite honestly for years I thought that longsuffering meant suffering for a long time. (Don't you judge my interpretation.) Lol! But when I discovered that it literally translates into the word patience I thought well heck they are both pretty tough things to deal with and God is calling ME to possess this in the spiritual because these are good fruits (qualities) that we should desire and own?! Oh boy! I find myself at times not being as impatient with my circumstances but in my inability to check myself on it before I get in too deep.

But let me tell you in this season I've learned to do that. I've learned that in order to grow as a person I have to make some changes and that growth in itself (especially in the spiritual) takes time particularly when you are trying to suppress something that you have "BEEN" for a long time (longsuffering).

So today I'm thankful for being patient with myself, with God, with His revelation, and with this season.

I look forward to seeing your affirmations of thanksgiving throughout the month!

All my love,
Caneeka
