30 poems. 30 days: National Poetry Month

Poetry is my first love.

1st edition of my book

My first book is a compilation of poetry (not for the faint at heart).
I discovered poetry in my aunt's attic one summer at the age of 11.
Paul Laurence Dunbar; The first time I learned about the power of words.
How, as a shy girl, I could still have a HUGE voice through pen and paper, line by line, sharing my peace. I discovered my purpose through writing. A gift I never knew existed but one that I cherish with all that I am. Believe it or not that shy girl still lives within me. I often write those things I'm too bashful to hear pierce through my lips. It's where I can be free to be me; In all that God has created. Speaking on every subject, every issue, every passionate moment that flows through my veins; I am poetry in motion and I love everything about her.

30 poems. 30 days.

April 1:

We must learn to think for ourselves. I see so many people walking around doing the same thing everyone else is doing. Afraid to be who they were created to be. Clones. We will forever be mutts until we learn to expand our minds, step out of the box, and stop chasing the dream of society.
YOU have a #Godsaid! Remember it and BEyou!

Expansion

She flows freely like friends watered down.
Wanting a little more, than some cheap coke and crown.
Wanting, just like you, some sleep that’s a silent sound.
But only missing you, as you firmly stand your ground.
Spelling out let’s try, without you saying why.
Giving you the most, without filling you up with lies.
Jokes that have no punch lines, chorus’ with no hooks.
Beats with no rhythm, a library with no books.
And anyway she wants to look,
Rolls eyes that her momma shook.
Robbing men , a crooked crook.
Burning water, a lazy cook.
Riding bikes but forgot to duck.
Running a marathon while "running amuck."
Losing money, low on luck.
Killing toy soldiers, a Tonka truck
Give me some green and call it a buck.
Lost in the forest, a gingerbread hut.
Throwing you a phrase and you label it schmuck.
Breeding our minds…
And they call us all mutts…

April 2:

How many times has your MOUTH gotten you in trouble. You talk too much, gossip too freely, laugh too loud in quiet places (this is my issue), you speak negative energy into your own life, you cuss people out all the time; your mouth is wreck-less. And you don't care. You don't care that you can build up those around you, speak to your mountains, sing songs of praise, laugh loudly (at appropriate places and times), speak words of affirmation, PRAY...
Make sure your mouth, your WORDS aren't keeping you out of tune.
Get on accord so WE can live in harmony!

On Accord

We use them.
We discover them.
Riding across pink trails.
Flying off of salmon cushions.
We kill souls that never had a chance to survive with them.
We encourage winners to loser from beginning to end.
We need a manual of direction on how to appreciate their existence.
We would probably lose it, because we are careless individuals.
Selfish in our own right because we can’t give credit where credit is due.
We’re users.
We’re irresponsible.
Until we can learn self-control…
We will always be a slave to words and never come to a common ground…

#nomakeup NEWS:

*My home chapter Lambda Zeta donated my book Smeared Eyeliner & Faded Lipstick to the LUNAFEST Film Festival for their silent auction. I was super excited and extremely honored as the festival is designed to raise awareness about women's issues, highlight women who have made an impact, and raise money for the Breast Cancer Fund. If you haven't gotten your copy of my book visit the link above or if you are a student at The University of Alabama you can pick up your copy from the SupeStore in the Ferg. :)
Instagram shoutout from my homie Merk!

*Many people missed the t-shirt campaign so I opened a 'removethemakeup shop' (See Shop: Behind the Makeup tab) and added some new designs (#Godsaid, #noweight for men, #noweight for women) Seeee:

So get your shirt and get one for your mother, sister, brother, cousin, neighbor, students; everyone! ;)

*I recorded some poems via SoundCloud. It's been hard for me to get out to some events because they usually occur on Sunday or when I'm not in town so this was my in the meantime decision. Check them out and leave a comment of your thoughts!

As always thank you for reading, sharing, texting/emailing me your thoughts! I REALLY appreciate you and your words! A movement is about doing something that will impact someone and encourage others to impact someone and encourage others in order to make a change! I praise Him for the areas of change you have decided to make or become because of something I shared.  Be the ripple; share your story!
