Letter to my Son...

I want you to experience:

Summer vacations with no central air,

the smell of the muggy air after it rains,

the smell of dew on the grass early in the morning.

Black & white TVs with 5 main channels, no cable, no 3 way; just talks on the cordless phone until the battery dies.

Love for the small things.

Finding art in ants carrying food to their queen.

Dancing because it feels right, loving deeply, and learning from the pain that comes with love in its rarest form.

Standing up for what you believe in even if no one else agrees.

Being a revolution in your own form unapologetically.

Running until your legs never forget how to do their job and catching every opportunity that’s thrown your way. Open your hands to receive them and hold on to it.

I want you to experience writing words to form sentences of an expression to your feelings and calling it poetry.

Experience discernment: of people, places, and situations.

Forgiveness: of everyone even your enemies. Think like Christ.

Prayer: in its purest and most humble form because HE has put a calling on your life. You are here for a purpose. To do great things, touch lives, make a difference.

Experience life outside of your birthplace. Remember the world is round not flat!

Be respectful towards everyone and demand it for yourself.

Always know that if they say you can’t, work harder because YOU know you can! Use their unbelief as motivation to do what God is calling you to do.

Understand that life changes, people change, feelings change; you are not in a box. Don’t let anyone put you there or expect you to stay there.

Be alive.

Be happy.

Be called.

Be strong.

Be creative.

Be prayerful.

Be dedicated.

Be encouraged.

Be loving.

Be blessed.
