1. What part of the state do you call home?
I call Madison my home although, as a military brat spending the majority of my youth in the north, that definition is a little blurred for me.
2. How long have you been blogging?
I started blogging while in college in 2005 so it will be 8 years this fall
3. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging as an outlet. A place to express how I was feeling, to collect my thoughts about life and the world around me. It became a diary of sorts in those early years.
4. What is your favorite part of being a member of the Alabama Women Bloggers community?
My favorite part is learning about other women nearby and reading their blogs. It’s always refreshing to connect with women who are near to you.
5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I see myself talking to women, sharing my book On the Heels of My Father, talking to the youth about healthy relationships and the impact witnessing Domestic Violence has on children, and bringing my family along for the ride.
6. If you could choose an actress to play you in your life, who would you choose and why?
I would probably pick Meagan Good. She is very passionate about the people, is dedicated to sharing God with those around her and her posts on instagram can be long winded like me. Ha!
7. Name 5 things on your Bucket List that you hope you’ll check off before you die?
5 things I’d like to check off of my bucket list are:
1. Visit Europe.
2. Visit the Caribbean.
3. Start an organization for Children Who Witness Domestic Violence.
4. Become Debt Free (Bye Bye Sallie Mae).
5. Wearing my natural hair.
8. If you could be known for one thing, what would it be and why?
I would want to be known for empowering people and challenging them to stop being mediocre and be who God has called them to be.
9. Describe the best moment in your life.
The best moment in my life would be having my son. I was so anxious and fearful and doubtful and thought so negative about my abilities to be an amazing mother and the moment I heard him cry I felt like 'I Am Woman Hear Me Roar!' It was an awesome moment in my life.
10. If you could “be” anything (no consequences, no fear), what would you “be”?
I would totally be a dancer. I am a horrible dancer but when I watch people dance I feel my spirit begin to dance, which in turn makes me think I can dance, and then I attempt to execute what I'm visualizing in my mind and everyone stops and gives me the one eyebrow raised look. But I would totally rock out as a dancer! Haha!
11. What or who inspires you to blog?
WOMEN inspire me to blog. The wives wanting to have a marriage based on biblical principles, the mothers who want to learn and be the best mothers they can be for their children, the world shakers who are bursting with gifts but are too afraid to put them to use, the victims who are trying to overcome that label and discover healthy relationships, the poets who are giving a voice to everything around them because someone has to speak for the silent and those walking through some tough trials determined to have an encounter with God. I blog for a purpose!
12. We’re headed to your neck of the woods… what restaurant would you recommend?
I would recommend Connor’s because their strawberry shortcake is amazing!
13. What’s a southern tradition you and your family have?
We actually don’t have a southern tradition.
14. If you could pick your favorite blog post from your blog this year, what would it be?
Picking just one is so hard. I couldn’t pick one so my favorite two (which relate to one another) are The Wife: Reveal. Reconnect. Rekindle. Renewed and It’s Time for a Shift. In our marriage we had a huge disconnect that really rocked the boat. During that same time God kept speaking to me about a shift. The shift that happened in my marriage encouraged the message for the shift that needed to occur spiritually and to see God working through both areas allowed me to speak to those areas others might be dealing with but didn’t want to address.
